JOB POSTING – Front End Developer, Los Angeles

We’re looking for a creative and talented Front End Developer to round out our Digital Media team. The Developer will be working on-site in our Westwood office and have an opportunity to contribute across our multiple media platforms.

Responsibilities:
• Analyze a project's business requirements in order to help develop functional requirements.
• Meet project requirements on budget and time.
• Produce maintainable code.
• Find innovative solutions to challenges within available budget and timeline.
• Provide reasonable price and timeline estimates for tasks/projects.
• Keep abreast of new technologies and shares with team.
• Focus on improving the style, modularity, and reusability of produced source code.
• Is a self-starter, independent thinker and someone who will take ownership of projects, communicating with team members to determine requirements and drive a project to completion from the engineering side.

The ideal candidate will have:
• 4 years of developing websites in a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) stack environment.
• 1-2 years of developing sites in Drupal.
• Experience creating and modifying Drupal modules.
• Advanced knowledge of PHP, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, AJAX.
• Experience working with javascript web frameworks such as jQuery, jQuery Mobile or Ext JS.
• Experience working in a multi-site environment in Drupal.
• Understanding of Drupal's best practices as well as pitfalls.
• Experience with migrating websites to Drupal.
• Experience working with source control systems (such as Git, SVN, etc).

Nice to have:
• Experience developing for high traffic websites with millions of visitors each month.
• Developed websites in Drupal 7 environment.
• Strong knowledge of SQL queries and relational database concepts in MySQL.
• Experience developing websites using responsive designs.
• Experience with Twitter bootstrap.
• Experience with troubleshooting performance issues at a code and systems level.

Here Media offers qualified, college-level students the opportunity to participate in quarterly, uncompensated internships available in our offices in Los Angeles and New York City. In general, most internships last for 3 months, at 10-16 hours per week. See basic internship descriptions and locations below. INTERNSHIP- CIRCULATION MARKETING, NEW YORK

Here Media’s Circulation team is seeking an intern who will work on a new reader acquisition project for our publication, HIV Plus, which is a free magazine that services the community living with HIV/AIDS. Working under the guidance of the Circulation Director and Fulfillment Manager, this intern will help identify leads, develop creative, and accurately implement e-mail, telemarketing, and online campaigns to increase the circulation reach of both the print and digital versions of this national magazine: www.hivplusmag.com. Preferred intern candidates will have a related field of study and a career interest in marketing or publishing. Excellent writing, communication and organizational skills are required.

INTERNSHIP – GRAPHIC & WEB DESIGN, CREATIVE SERVICES, NEW YORK

The Graphic & Web design intern will work on the Here TV Creative Services team, side by side with the Senior Designer on production, development and design for both print and web. Opportunities for hands-on experience in all aspects of design including: Web Development/Design - Image and photo preparation and manipulation for web-based digital ads and sites. HTML5/CSS3 animation and some Flash skills are highly desired. Off-Air Creative Design - Assist with development, ideas and pre-production of various printed materials, including posters, ad campaigns and marketing materials. This internship will provide extreme growth and published work to a designer's portfolio. Skills include, Photoshop, Illustrator, comprehensive knowledge of typography, a love of the web and new digital technologies, excellent written and spoken communication skills. INTERNSHIP – INTEGRATED MARKETING INTERN, NEW YORK

The Integrated Marketing Intern will have the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with both print and digital advertising. Interns will assist with sales and marketing meetings and work directly with those who are experienced in the field. Interns will be involved with many tasks including conducting research, competitive analysis, preparing media kits, planning and staffing advertiser events (Spring 2013 will include advertiser driven event series, planning for Pride events).

Interns will assist marketing managers in organizing, researching and executing long-term projects or special marketing initiatives above and beyond day-to-day responsibilities as assigned by the Integrated Marketing department.

The most qualified applicants will be college students with a career focus in advertising and marketing, with interest and skills in the print and digital medium. We're looking for dedicated, committed candidates that have a deep interest in the LGBT market. Additionally, the candidate is detail-oriented, able to multitask, and capable of working independently. Familiarity with blogging, wikis, and social media is a plus.

INTERNSHIP -- CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT/POST-PRODUCTION, NEW YORK

Students on a track to be immersed in the world of film and television will get hands-on experience in all aspects of development and production within our Creative Development team. Interns will be exposed to all sides of this business from development of stories, writing of scripts, on-site post-production to delivery of product. Intern will specifically work to help coordinate all aspects of content creation for digital properties as well as our TV network and film distribution.

Opportunities will include: working closely with the Creative Development department staff to coordinate meetings, set up interviews, read scripts and treatments, log and cover submitted scripts as well as work with production department to schedule shoots, conduct extensive research, location scouting and manage delivery of all content.

The best intern candidates will have a career path in producing/production with a keen eye towards development. Experience in writing, production and digital are highly desired.

INTERNSHIP – ADVERTISING INTERN, NEW YORK

Ad interns have the opportunity to sit-in on weekly advertising sales meetings, marketing meetings, and work directly with Ad Directors who are experienced in the field. Interns will be asked to assist with many sales development tasks including conducting research, sales strategy, data updates, processing paperwork, competitive analysis, preparing media kits, attending advertiser events and some related administrative support. INTERNSHIP – INTEGRATED MARKETING INTERN, NEW YORK

Here Media's Integrated Marketing department is seeking a Research intern for summer 2012, who will help to build and curate data sets and assist in various research projects on the role of Here Media audience and general consumer marketing. The research intern will also have opportunities to conduct and publish original research and writing under the supervision our team leaders. Internship -- Information Technology, New York

The Information Technology internship will expose interns to a corporate technical environment, including computer, server, telecomm, and network technologies. Duties will include supporting PC and Mac workstations, creating server/email accounts, pbx administration, installing software, and providing general IT help desk support and project-related work.

The most successful candidates will be proficient with Windows XP, Windows 7, and Mac OSX, and Microsoft Office (particulary Outlook). Knowledge of Server 2003/2008 would also be desirable. A recently completed Microsoft or computer-related certification is a definite plus. Should be organized, and have good problem-solving and communication/customer service skills. Candidates with some prior IT experience and a career goal in Technology preferred.


Internship -- Editorial Department for SheWired.com, Los Angeles

SheWired.com, the fastest growing website for women, and we’re looking for enthusiastic interns to help us shape our new direction. The most qualified applicants are students with a career focus in lifestyle and entertainment writing, journalism, new media and marketing.

Interns will be involved in weekly brainstorming meetings and work directly with experienced writers and editors in developing this daily online magazine. Interns will be asked to pitch, write, and edit stories as well as assist with research, proofing stories, and updating the site. Editors will help interns learn the ropes for hunting down leads and developing portfolio-worthy writing samples for magazines and websites.


Internship -- Advertising, Los Angeles

The Digital Media Department at Here Media is looking for an intern(s) to assist in the production of online newsletters, make site modifications and work on special projects as needed. Sites include OUT.com and Advocate.com. Candidates should be skilled in Photoshop and basic HTML. Any Flash or video experience is helpful.


Internship -- Editorial, Los Angeles

Editorial internships are offered in Los Angeles for The Advocate. Interns will assist with various support projects such as editorial gathering, research, proofing, web site production and other related editorial and administrative tasks. Some writing and editing assignments may be possible, depending upon qualifications, but cannot be guaranteed. Interns are invited to take a place at daily editorial planning meetings and will work along with editors, art/photo department and other staff as issues are created according to the magazine's production cycle.
Preferred editorial intern candidates will have a related field of study and a career interest in journalism or publishing. Excellent writing, communication and organizational skills are required.
