New York Positions

JOB POSTING -- Manager, Original Programming & Development

Here! TV is currently recruiting for an exciting and unique position which requires someone who has a wide range of skills and can work on a variety of projects from pre-production, to field producing to managing network cable affiliate relationships and consumer marketing. This hybrid position will work with multiple departments, including creative, media, digital, ad sales, original programming, affiliates, marketing and legal.

Associate Producer - will generally assist the producer in putting the TV program or film together from concept to delivery. Duties may include writing, editing, organizing scripts, writing coverage on scripts, drafting letters, making phone calls, booking talent .. In addition this person will be required to oversee shoots in the field. They will work with venue contacts, Production Coordinators, Producers and D.P.s to set up interviews, gather video and collect information to ensure proper delivery .. Affiliate Marketing - will be asked to reconnect and re-engage with our cable and telco operators to strategize on how to increase visibility of the Here TV brand and, in turn drive subscriptions. Work with SVP to identify key markets and strategize and oversee execution of affiliate marketing partnerships and promotions for the network. In addition, on-site visit and CSR trainings will be necessary.

Job Responsibilities:
• Lead the development of strategic and innovative multi-platform initiatives to generate affiliate subscription revenue and partnership opportunities (includes programming integration, co-promotions and local market avail sponsorship opportunities).
• Identify and evaluate key marketplace trends; seek opportunities for Current to create relevant affiliate partnership and co-marketing offerings
• Partner with Research to continually develop compelling case studies and positioning
• Provide leadership to Affiliate Sales on emerging online and television industry and advertising trends, technological capabilities, VOD and competitive practices
• Work with programming to strategically develop local sponsorship opportunities/programming events according to calendar and client needs
• Manage all company promotional activities, including sweepstakes, contests, watch-and-wins, and related incentives to promote tune-in and consumer engagement.
• Work with creative team in effective execution of initiatives to be delivered to Affiliate Advertising Sales, and Programming/Marketing as necessary
• Continually evaluates and adjust affiliate sales marketing strategies and plans to meet changing distribution business landscape, related channels and local market needs.
• Develop Affiliate road show presentation strategy and messaging plan; liaise internal teams to implement
• Be responsible for planning, monitoring and submission of budget; balance client goals and requests against the Current brand lens

Requirements:
• 5-7 years working in Entertainment/Media
• Basic knowledge of the on air/television production process as well as digital content platforms
• Strong writing and editing skills; Demonstrated leadership skills to manage production teams
• Ability to see projects through from concept to completion; Detail-oriented but also able to function well in a fast-paced, dynamic, team environment

JOB POSTING -- PRINT PRODUCTION MANAGER / DIGITAL IMAGING TECHNICIAN, NY/LA

OUT The Advocate, HIV Plus - Here Media, the company behind the nation's most prominent magazine, online, and broadcast brands in the LGBT market, is seeking an experienced Print Production Manager/Digital Imaging Technician to manage editorial and advertising production for its three titles, Out, The Advocate, and HIV Plus. We’re accepting resumes for candidates in New York City and Los Angeles.

Print Production
Will be detail oriented and experienced in preparing files for print as well as managing the workflow of all layouts to print and have a strong understanding of production issues.

Desired Skills & Experience
• Traffic and maintain all advertising materials including insertion orders and special instructions for each ad
• Liaise with ad agencies about material specs
• Create positioning chart for book layouts
• Quality Control of all advertising materials
• Supply original color match proofs or new proofs to printer
• Take native InDesign files and convert to print ready files
• View and approve printer CTP files and forms
• Calibration of proofers in NY office

• Provide all correct art as TIFF files to art departments for layout placement
• Go on press checks and monitor color, registration, and density on press, as well as give priority to critical pages
• Working with photographers to prepare files for best reproduction quality

The ideal candidate will possess:

JOB POSTING -- Associate Editor, The Advocate Group (Advocate magazine, advocate.com, HIV Plus magazine, hivplusmag.com, and shewired.com) – Los Angeles

Under the direction of the executive editor and in consultation with the online editor, the associate editor is one of the primary content providers for The Advocate Group and we expect this person to be a powerhouse writer. In addition, the associate editor assists with the planning, assigning, compiling, and editing of the front of the book for every issue of the magazine, and works with and assists the online editor in making sure breaking news is being appropriately covered in a timely manner on Advocate.com. She or he also anticipates trends and analyzes events that are important to the core readers of each of our Advocate Group brands, and ensures these trends and events are accurately and responsibly reported on a timely basis in print or online. Additionally, the associate editor assists with the planning, assigning, compiling, and editing each issue of HIV Plus magazine, staying on top of contemporary issues and health news related to people with HIV. Lastly, this person writes news and entertainment articles for SheWired.com, the women’s portal.

Duties:
• Under direction of the executive editor and in consultation with the online editor, writes features and breaking news stories as needed for multiple brands. Will be writing several online posts daily for Advocate.com and SheWired.com, and generally a few articles for the print editions of Advocate and HIV Plus.
• Line edits; copy edits; writes story titles, subtitles, and photo captions; and makes copy-fitting adjustments when needed.
• Generates story ideas and assists with planning for special editorial sections, giving specific attention to ensure timely coverage of and national scope in topic; makes proposals to executive editor
• Assists with compilation and preparation of all news and appropriate departments, including the front of the book section, in each issue.
• Assists with monitoring news sites and leading publications on a daily basis for events and stories that can be molded into appropriate articles for the magazine and for Advocate.com. In addition, builds and maintains relationships with outside news sourcesfor future original reporting.
• Works with the online editor to make sure the web site is always up-to-date with the latest news stories—and to make sure that Advocate.com is breaking as many of the stories that are important to our readers.

Requirements:
This person in this position must be efficient, well organized, have a strong interest in news and politics, a commitment to The Advocate as a news-gathering organization, and a broad knowledge of the LGBT rights movement as well as the proven ability to think critically. Must be a proficient writer who is able to master The Advocate’s house style. Must be able to work with tight resources and remain calm under intense deadline pressure, and be willing and able to work evenings or weekends when needed to meet deadlines. Must be sufficiently flexible and knowledgeable about the print and online production process.

Additional preferred skills: Experience with Drupal and other CMS systems. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop and InDesign. Experience and interest in using social media as a key news gathering tool and disseminating breaking news via social media.

Job Posting -- Digital Sales Professional

Here Media is looking for experienced, polished, and aggressive Digital Sales Professional to secure and maintain partnerships with advertisers for all of its brands. This position can be located in New York, San Francisco, or Los Angeles.

This salesperson is responsible for identifying, developing, maintaining and managing accounts to which they are assigned with the goal to hit and exceed set advertising sales goals for various media properties of the Here Media multi-platform portfolio. This includes identifying and contacting decision makers at the client and agency and working in tandem with other integrated sales, marketing, and operational staff, as required. The Digital Sales Professional will package our brands together to create programs that enhance the advertiser connection to our consumers.

Requirements:
• At least 5 years digital advertising sales experience with high degree of knowledge in the online sales platform and terminology.
• Abundant ad agency and client contacts a big plus
• Strong background and relationships with digital agencies/advertisers
• Experience with selling 360 programs including digital, print, mobile, and television.
• Advanced skills in negotiating, problem solving, decision making, goal setting, prioritizing data interpretation, and marketing knowledge.

Here Media offers qualified, college-level students the opportunity to participate in quarterly, uncompensated internships available in our offices in Los Angeles and New York City. In general, most internships last for 3 months, at 10-16 hours per week. See basic internship descriptions and locations below. Internship -- Information Technology, New York

The Information Technology internship will expose interns to a corporate technical environment, including computer, server, telecomm, and network technologies. Duties will include supporting PC and Mac workstations, creating server/email accounts, pbx administration, installing software, and providing general IT help desk support and project-related work.

The most successful candidates will be proficient with Windows XP, Windows 7, and Mac OSX, and Microsoft Office (particulary Outlook). Knowledge of Server 2003/2008 would also be desirable. A recently completed Microsoft or computer-related certification is a definite plus. Should be organized, and have good problem-solving and communication/customer service skills. Candidates with some prior IT experience and a career goal in Technology preferred.


Internship -- Editorial, The Advocate, Washington D.C.

The Advocate magazine, a national lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender newsmagazine and online publication, is seeking an editorial intern in Washington, D.C. to assist in national and state political coverage and research for the fall term.

Applicants must have strong writing skills, a fundamental interest in policy issues affecting the LGBT community, the ability to work on multiple projects at any given time, and an eagerness to write original stories. Administrative tasks are minimal; hands-on reporting and research opportunities are the primary focus of this internship.

Interns will be able to contribute up to a minimum of 16 hours per week and receive college credit for their participation. Internship start date is flexible. Internship -- Video Production Intern, New York

The Video Production internship will expose interns to the full arc of production from conception to shooting and may include hands-on duties ranging from booking guests, scheduling shoots, securing locations, materials preparation, running errands, making script copies, transporting production equipment to/from shoots, handling props, running video cameras, cue cards, etc.

Internship -- Editorial, Los Angeles

Editorial internships are offered in Los Angeles for The Advocate. Interns will assist with various support projects such as editorial gathering, research, proofing, web site production and other related editorial and administrative tasks. Some writing and editing assignments may be possible, depending upon qualifications, but cannot be guaranteed. Interns are invited to take a place at daily editorial planning meetings and will work along with editors, art/photo department and other staff as issues are created according to the magazine's production cycle.

Internship -- Fashion, Out magazine, New York

Fashion internships are offered with Out magazine editorial staff in New York. Interns will assist the Fashion Director and Market Editor with organizing fashion features, gathering clothing, prepping photo shoots and supporting the fashion department with the administrative effort behind producing the fashion section of each issue.

Preferred candidates will have a related field of study and a career interest in fashion, photo editing, or other similar industry. Must be able to handle multiple projects and provide efficient and effective administrative support. Excellent personal communication skills are a must.


Internship -- Creative Development, New York

Students on a track to be immersed in the world of film and television will get hands-on experience in all aspects of development and production in our Marketing and Development Internship. Interns will be exposed to all sides of this business from development of stories to writing of scripts to delivery of product to selling & marketing. Intern will specifically work to help coordinate all aspects of content creation for digital properties as well as our TV network and film distribution.
