NEW YORK Positions

PRODUCTION DIRECTOR, NY

Job Summary:  The Production Director oversees the entire Here Media print production process from digital imaging through printing.

Core day-to-day duties:
• Scanning, retouching, and color correcting digital art with the understanding of naming conventions, resolution requirements, and the proper storing and placement of images
• Check art files for correct size, format and resolution
• Check color and ink density
• Work with photographers and editorial creative staff to prepare files for best reproduction quality
• Traffic and maintain all advertising materials including insertion orders and special instructions for each ad
• Create positioning chart for book layouts
• Supply original color match proofs or new proofs to printer
• Take native InDesign files and convert to print ready files
• View and approve printer CTP files and forms
• Work directly with managing editors and art directors to provide Epson proofs for all pages
• Works closely with ad production manager who assists with ad materials and liaises with ad agencies. Ensures success of print production with respect to ad materials trafficking

Other duties:
• Manage print production schedule
• Monitor ad sales and editorial adherence to schedule and make suggestions to improve timeliness
• Ensure proper functioning of proofers and large format printers
• Manage inventory of supplies for printers and proofers
• Establish organized digital archiving procedure
• Work with IT and editorial groups to determine most efficient storage of files
• Press checks for at least four print issues of Out; others as deemed necessary by joint approval of sales/edit/finance (involves travel including occasional weekends)
• Manage costs to budget
• Prepare digital versions of all publications for delivery to digital subscribers
• Manage paper costs and determine best solutions to keep costs down; possible coordinate with third party company to help with renegotiation of paper contract
• Manage/track all requests for poster production on large format printer
• Collect requests for special print production jobs, obtain quotes, and manage process.
• Always evaluate and improve processes and flow of information amongst departments
• Ad hoc web production work as requested and when time allows
• Manage renewal of printer contract and act as point person for competitor bids

Skill Requirements
• Highly organized and able to prioritize and coordinate several tasks at the same time while adhering to strict deadlines.
• Able to react quickly in situations making fast decisions based on good judgment and experience.
• Knowledgeable in sheetfed printing, web printing, saddle stitch and perfect bindery procedures.  A thorough hands-on understanding of digital prepress, proofing, electronic prepress, digital files specifications, PDF's and electronic transfer systems.
• Must have technical expertise in Quark Express, Photoshop and Illustrator, InDesign programs as well as other related programs.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, etc.).
• Knowledgeable about paper quality and grading and print quality.
• Experience in print buying.
• Good written and spoken communication skills and the ability to work well with variety of people both inside and outside the company.
• Excellent analysis and negotiation skills.
• Able to effectively supervise staff and any external resources / vendors.

JUNIOR DESIGNER, INTEGRATED MARKETING, NY

Job Summary: Working under the direction of the Art Director, Integrated Marketing, the Junior Designer, Integrated Marketing, will responsible for designing marketing, promotional assets for the Here Media portfolio of brands across all platforms, and reinforce/advance the visual brand of Here Media.

General Responsibilities:
• Creating designs for a variety of custom advertising campaigns in conjunction with leading brands-including high-impact ad units, interactive landing pages featuring custom photography, original site skins, and more
• Maintain and help advance the visual brand of Here Media
• Working closely with the Art Director to develop interactive/print designs that will elevate our brands across all of our platforms.
• Work closely with the Art Director on updating sales and marketing materials including brand kits, media kits, presentation templates, and sell sheets
• Design in-book advertorials and special sections

Professional Requirements:
• 1-2 years of print and digital publishing and web design experience, ideally from an interactive agency or media brand
• Organized, has a strong eye for detail, and the ability to execute concepts in a timely matter
• Strong conceptual development, visualization, typography and interactive design skills
• Exceptional multi-tasking skills and working in a detail-oriented manner by delivering projects according to requirements
• Ability to effectively communicate design ideas within a collaborative work environment, and across marketing, ad sales, online and video production teams
• Ability to communicate and execute design ideas in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment
• Strong interest in Marketing and Brand development
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Basic knowledge of video and motion graphics is a major plus
• An added bonus if you possess illustration skills

Technical Requirements:
• Expert in Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Powerpoint
• Proficient font-end design skills using HTML and CSS

Here Media offers qualified, college-level students the opportunity to participate in quarterly, uncompensated internships available in our offices in Los Angeles and New York City. In general, most internships last for 3 months, at 10-16 hours per week. See basic internship descriptions and locations below. INTERNSHIP – INTEGRATED MARKETING INTERN, NEW YORK

The Integrated Marketing Intern will have the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with both print and digital advertising. Interns will participate in sales and marketing meetings and work directly with those who are experienced in the field. Interns will be involved with many tasks including conducting research, competitive analysis, preparing media kits, planning and staffing advertiser events (Pride Events, OUT 100, etc.).

Interns will work alongside marketing managers in organizing, researching and executing long-term projects or special marketing initiatives.

The most qualified applicants will be college students with a career focus in advertising and marketing, with interest and skills in the print, digital and social media medium. We're looking for dedicated, committed candidates that have an interest in the LGBT market. Additionally, the candidate is detail-oriented, able to multitask, and capable of working independently. Familiarity with blogging, wikis, and social media is a plus.

INTERNSHIP – ADVERTISING INTERN, NEW YORK & LOS ANGELES

Ad interns have the opportunity to sit-in on weekly advertising sales meetings, marketing meetings, and work directly with Ad Directors who are experienced in the field. Interns will be asked to assist with many sales development tasks including conducting research, sales strategy, data updates, processing paperwork, competitive analysis, preparing media kits, attending advertiser events and some related administrative support. The most qualified applicants will be students with a career focus in advertising and marketing, with interest and skills in the print and digital medium.

INTERNSHIP – CONSUMER MARKETING INTERN, ATLANTA

The Consumer Marketing Intern will have the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience developing and executing 360 degree consumer marketing programs for top LGBT media brands including Gay.com and Here TV. Interns will participate in marketing, planning, and strategy meetings and work directly with the Director of Consumer Marketing. Interns will be involved with many tasks including conducting research, competitive analysis, preparing marketing materials, authoring promotional materials including sponsored editorial, and coordinating marketing events with nightlife partners across the country.

The most qualified intern candidates will be college students with a career focus in marketing or business, with interest in advertising, writing and social media. We're looking for dedicated, committed candidates that have an interest in the LGBT market. Additionally, interns must be detail-oriented, resourceful, and capable of working independently. Familiarity with dating applications and LGBT media outlets is critical.

INTERNSHIP – EDITORIAL INTERN, LOS ANGELES

Editorial internships are offered in Los Angeles for Advocate.com, in tandem with our three partner sites, SheWired.com, HIVPlusMag.com, and OutTraveler. Interns will participate and gain exposure in the day-to-day production of online editorial, including content gathering, research, proofing, web site production, and more. Writing assignments may be possible, depending upon qualifications, but cannot be guaranteed. Interns are invited to take a place at daily editorial planning meetings and will work along with editors, art/photo department and other staff. Preferred editorial intern candidates will have a related field of study and a career interest in journalism or publishing. Excellent writing, communication and organizational skills are required.
